Welcome to Travis Kopke's Fishing Guide Service!
My name is Travis Kopke, and I am a licensed guide in the state of WI. I have been fishing since I could sit on a log on a dock, and cast my bobber and worm out for panfish. I love fishing for all species of fish, but my passion is for muskies. 2008 will mark my 16th year chasing muskies with roughly 10 of those years pursuing muskies that suspend over some of the deepest water in a given lake.
I am based a short distance from the town of Phelps in Vilas county, and include Oneida and Forest counties in my range. However, not only do I guide near Phelps but also surrounding areas including Eagle River, Boulder Junction, and Manitowish Waters. Some specific lakes I concentrate my efforts on, but am not limited to are:
Kentuck Lake
Big Sand Lake
Sevenmile Lake
Upper Buckatabon Lake
Manitowish Chain of Lakes
I believe in releasing all muskies so that it may become someone's next trophy. Therefore I practice 100% CPR (Catch, Photo, and Release), and will gladly help you in learning the correct method of handling the fish to minimize harm to you and the fish.
Let em go, let em grow!
Tired of getting in line to fish your favorite piece of structure? Sick of picking weeds off your line, casting baits into trees because your depth perception was off for that cast, or hanging up on a snag? Looking to increase your average size of fish boated as well as adding consistency to your success?
If you answered yes to any of those questions then try fishing out over open water for suspended muskies, or over deep water structures. Fish spend a majority of the time in deeper water so it just makes sense to fish for them there. Suspended fishing is simply targeting fish located a short distance from a piece of structure in deep water, or out in the basin of the lake.
Fishing for muskies that suspend, or that are relating to deep water structure are a more consistent pattern than trying to keep up on the shallow, structure related fish in my opinion. Average fish size is usually over 40", and multiple fish days are common.
